Why doesn't the trip clock start as soon as I press the record button?

When you press the record button to start a trip Trail Boss records your current location as the trip start point. However, the trip clock is not started and no further track points will be recorded until you have travelled a short distance away from the start point.

This allows you to start the trip recording when it is convenient (and while you remember) even though you are not quite ready to begin the trip. When you get to the trail head you can tap the record button, put away your phone and then wait for friends or get your gear ready without having this time/activity recorded to your trip.

Trail Boss emits an alert sound when you have moved far enough to trigger the trip clock.

Sometimes, when GPS accuracy is poor, the GPS position will jump erratically and cause Trail Boss to start the trip clock even though you have not moved. Use the 'Standby Start' option in the 'Trip Settings' page to fix this problem.

You can tell Trail Boss start the clock immediately when you press the record button: Go to 'Trip Settings' in Trail Boss's Settings page. Select 'Start Trip Clock Immediately'.
