What is the 'Standby-Start' setting for?

Post by bruce@handylogic.ca » Thu Jan 23, 2020 4:26 pm

If you start recording a trip too soon after you turn your phone on then the first several track points recorded to your trip can be very inaccurate. This is because the GPS is restarted when your phone is turned on and it takes some time for it to figure out where you are with precision. If you want the best accuracy for your trip statistics you could monitor ‘GPS Accuracy’ on the dashboard page and only start the recording when it is down to around 16m or less. Or you could use Standby-Start.

Standby-Start deals with this problem by placing the trip recording into standby mode until GPS accuracy improves. So, instead of you waiting for the GPS to warm up, you can start the trip recording right away and let Standby-Start do the waiting for you. You will hear a ding sound when the trip drops out of standby mode and recording is started.

Standby-Start is under 'Trip Settings' on the Settings page.

FYI: If you have ever had Trail Boss unexpectedly start the trip clock even though you haven't moved from your start point then you are experiencing this problem. Standby-Start will fix this.
