Trail Boss has 3 modes of orienting the map on the Map Page: 'North Up', 'Heading Up', and 'Track Up'. Tap the position arrow to change modes.

'North Up' disables map rotation and sets the map so that north is always at the top of the screen. This mode is similar to using a paper map. In this mode the position arrow indicates the direction that your phone is pointing.

'Heading Up' uses the phone's built-in compass to rotate the map so it shows the direction that your phone is pointing.

'Track Up' uses the last few GPS positions to determine your direction of travel. The map is then rotated to show your direction of travel.

If you are using Trail Boss in an ATV/Dirt Bike/sled or other vehicle then Track Up may be a better choice than Heading Up. The metal and electronics of the vehicle can interfere with the phone's built-in compass and cause Heading Up mode to show bad indications.

If the phone is placed in a vehicle mount, it is often not pointing directly out the front of the vehicle. In this case 'Heading Up' mode will always show you pointed off to one side. Also, rough terrain can cause Heading Up mode to jump around. Use 'Track Up' in this situation.
